Shoal Creek Living History Museum strives to recreate the atmosphere of a small community around the late 1800s and dedicated to the preservation of Missouri's early history and architecture.
As a reminder all net proceeds from our events go directly to Shoal Creek Living History Museum for repairs and maintenance. Shoal Creek Association is a 501(c)(3) volunteered based non-profit organization. Thank you, in advance, for supporting the museum and its 13 historic buildings.

This event is designed to represent how Halloween would have been celebrated in the Midwest during 1890.
Trick or Treating didn't begin until around the 1920's however simple costumes did which is described below.

This will be a day of celebration with period games for all ages, kids crafts, pony rides, spooky storytelling (will have scheduled times), bonfires, and music.

If kids want to dress up period style here are a few fun ideas:
●wearing clothes inside out or deliberately large was very popular. Clothing was plain and mostly solid. No large prints. Common colors were tan, white, blue, brown, and black.
●ghost (white sheet with eyes cut out)
●mask made of paper or cloth. Was only worn to hide ones face. Mask was worn with period clothes.
**Each child who wears a "period outfit" from one of the ideas above, will receive a small gift.
